THE FIRST BAYBAY FESTIVAL
Back to EventsAbout This Event
Set to take place on February 20–21, 2025, the Baybay Festival marks a historic celebration of Buguey’s vibrant coastal heritage and the deep connection of its people to the sea. Derived from the Ilocano word “baybay”, meaning “sea”, this festival pays homage to Buguey’s rich marine resources and the livelihood they sustain, with a special focus on the largehead hairtail, locally known as espada or bulong unas. The festival is a reflection of Buguey’s pride in its identity as a coastal municipality blessed with abundant seafood and a resilient fishing community. Through culinary showcases, cultural presentations, and educational exhibits, it highlights the significance of sustainable fishing and marine conservation—ensuring that Buguey’s coastal resources continue to thrive for the benefit of future Bugueyanos.
